Week 3 - Object Oriented Programming
Object oriented programming is something I have experienced in the past back in high school with Java. Both Java and Python are examples of object oriented programming. In object oriented programming, an object is created that handles both the data and functionality. An object data is not universally acceptable which means that only that object can access it by using a method. Not all objects have the same method. I found this to be difficult at first to learn because sometimes I find myself trying to use a method to access some data on an object that does not support that method. A part, I did find really confusing about object oriented programming was instance. It took me a while to understand that an instance meant creating the object in the program. I was never really sure what about it made it so confusing because now looking back, it was a simple concept. An instance is just creating the object in the program. However, I did find some concepts of object oriented programming such as inheritance. I simply thought about it in biological way. A class is like the parent and all the subclass of the class inherit the attributes and functionality of the parent, but the subclass can be slightly different just like how kids are not always like their parents. Overall, I feel that object oriented programming is a concept that can be grasped and understood easily if you think about it not just in the sense of programming. Some of the ideas/concepts are found in real life.
